Neon Pothos: Growing Guide
Neon Pothos is a tropical perennial plant known for its striking, vibrant neon-green foliage that remains bright and colorful throughout its growth. This unique coloration, along with its heart-shaped leaves, makes it a standout addition to any indoor plant collection.
This fast-growing pothos thrives indoors, making it ideal for homes, offices, and larger spaces. It prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate lower light conditions. Neon Pothos enjoys moderate to high humidity and grows best in temperatures between 65-80°F. Like most pothos varieties, it requires well-draining soil and should be watered when the top inch of soil dries out.
With its vibrant foliage and easy-care nature, Neon Pothos adds a lush, tropical feel to any space.
Light
Neon pothos plants thrive in bright indirect light. They can also survive in low light areas but will be slower growing and can lose their colour on the leaves.
If there is too much light or direct light the leaves can burn and damage the plant whereas not enough sun and the leaves will not be as colourful.
Water
Neon Pothos requires a moderate amount of water. If you over water the roots have a tendency to rot so let the soil dry out between waterings. It can tolerate under watering better than over watering. On average once per week depending on the size of the plant. Increase watering in summer.
Growth & Maintenance
Neon Pothos grows at moderate rate and will grow much faster in favourable conditions. Such as bright light and warmer temperatures. Like other pothos', it is a trailing vine that can be either grown down from a shelf or hanging basket or grown upwards on a structure.
Due to its vining nature, trim Neon Pothos occasionally, depending on how you want your plan to grow. Keep the trimmings to use as cuttings for propagation in either soil or water.
Propagation
Neon Pothos is easy to propagate using stem cuttings. Select a healthy stem with at least one node and a few leaves, then cut just below a node. You can place the cutting in water until roots develop or plant it directly into moist soil. Maintain high humidity for the best results.
Hardiness Zones
Neon Pothos thrives in warm, humid conditions and is best suited for USDA zones 9-11. It does not tolerate frost or temperatures below 55°F, so it should be kept indoors or in a greenhouse in cooler climates.
Safety
Neon Pothos is toxic to pets and humans if ingested due to calcium oxalate crystals. It can cause irritation or discomfort if chewed, so it is best kept out of reach of pets and children.
Common Issues
Although Neon Pothos is relatively low-maintenance, it can experience some common problems:
Overwatering: This plant is prone to root rot if kept in overly damp soil. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings and use a well-draining mix.
Yellowing Leaves: This may indicate overwatering, underwatering, or poor drainage. Check soil moisture and adjust watering accordingly.
Leggy Growth: If the plant becomes stretched or sparse, it is likely not receiving enough light. Move it to a brighter spot with indirect sunlight to encourage fuller growth.
